Note that two downloads are required and follow the instructions at Creating Visual Studio 2005 Project to create the project in Visual Studio .NET.

An alternate project model is under analysis; see Setting up Visual Studio 2005 and Sitecore 5.3 without Web Application Project.

To prevent Visual Studio .NET from deleting Sitecore DLLs from the Website/bin folder under certain circumstances, set the Copy Local property of the Sitecore.Kernel reference to false.
